Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has given assent to the bill passed by the Kano house of assembly on breaking up the emirate in the state.

With the development, Kano now has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi, but the domain of Muhammadu Sanusi, emir of Kano, has been reduced.

Ganduje had earlier vowed to give assent to the bill immediately it is transmitted to him.

Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the bill for the creation of four Emirate councils in the state.

The bill seeks the creation of four more 1st class Emirs in the state, which include Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya Emirate council.

According to the petition written by some legal practitioners, the establishment of the Emirates would facilitate more development to the people, as well as provide security in the respective areas.

It is also believed that the law is aimed at whittling down the influence of Emir of Kano, #Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was reported to have opposed the re-election of Governor Abdullahi #Ganduje.
