Gov Dickson is making sure that a proper transition is done ~ Bayelsa SSG

As the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Bayelsa draws near, the participating organs must work hard in ensuring a credible process. 

The SSG, Barr. Kemela Okara, who appears to be one of the guber hopeful, in this interview with selected media practitioners in Yenagoa, the state capital, he highlighted the need for a free, fair election. Excerpts 

What is your assessment of the security organs in the state, as we look forward to the general election?

The security agencies has a major role to play, the security agencies mostly report direct to federal government, that is why I have always advocated for state policing system, our security agencies must be professional when it comes to conducting peaceful elections.

Are you confident in the umpire INEC ? 

To curb a non-violent election, INEC has a role to play, they must ensure that at all levels they conduct a free, fair and a hitch free elections. The issue of card reader failure etc is really a major set back in conducting a hitch-free elections but they must work to ensure the process is better.

On voters apathy, what do you advise ? 

Politicians really need to Educate the electorates against indulging in vote buying, electorates need to hold our politicians accountable, for them show there various strides as an evidence to be voted for.

On Credible elections, what is your take? 

Journalist and observers has the highest role to show case credible elections, there reports need to be credible by highlighting what truly happened at the pole, election observers need to ensure that INEC do the right thing at the pole, there reports to a large extent encourages credible elections.

On the numerous aspirants? 

This is the first time bayelsa is having a proper continued transition, that makes our case different, Gov Seriake Dickson is trying to make sure that a proper transition is done, that’s why the forms are open to all, every body will do a proper campaign for delegates to decide, the field for a candidate to emerge might be narrow but at the end, one candidate will emerge.

What makes you different from others?

I don’t think it is fair to compare myself with others, every candidate is unique in their own way, it’s like a football match, where coach study the game and decides who to replace and change, doesn’t mean the person replaced in the game is not good.
