President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday sacked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, while on an official assignment to Owerri, Imo State.

The President through Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammadu Dingyadi, also announced the appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.

Dingyadi, while addressing State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, said Baba’s appointment is in line with President Buhari’s determination to rejig the nation’s security architecture and ensure that the current security challenges bedevilling the nation are brought to an end.

Meanwhile, Adamu hurriedly left the Imo State capital when news filtered in that he had been removed from office.

The former IGP had declared war against members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and operatives of it’s security arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Adamu who visited the burnt Police Command and Owerri Correctional Centre said charged police officers to deploy their weapons against IPOB members and crush them to the last man.

He also charged the policemen to deal ruthlessly with members of the IPOB or operative of ESN anywhere they encounter them.
