ABAKALIKI—GOVERNOR David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Tuesday, made it clear that he has no intention of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the country.
Briefing newsmen at the Exco Chambers of the Government House Abakaliki, Governor Umahi stressed that there was no reason for him to dump PDP from which he has benefitted immensely as former State party chairman, former deputy governor and now governor of Ebonyi State.
According to him, “my focus as governor of Ebonyi state is to ensure the speedy development of the state and not get involved in dirty politics with men who lack integrity, patriotism and goodwill of their people.
“The clarification is that my relationship with Mr. President is because he is Mr. President, and he is my boss and the relationship is personal.
“Mr. President or any APC person has never asked me to come to APC, and they will never ask me, and there is no reason for me to leave my party, PDP of which I was the party chairman, deputy governor and now governor. I have always insisted in character, therefore, people that jump from one party to the other should examine their character, except if there is any problem within your party.
“As for today, till tomorrow until Christ comes, there is no crisis in PDP.. Even if there is a need for me to leave PDP, I can never leave PDP for APC in Ebonyi State. So, I can never be on the same political platform with them.
“I am focused to do my job. I am focused in governance. I have always insisted that we should leave party politics to our party men and women. As soon as you are elected, you should focus on your job. The fever that has been gripping me since the day I was elected was for me to do my job, produce the dividends of democracy and tackle the plight of our people.
“So, they should leave me alone. I am focused; I am PDP and as a member of PDP, I have benefited from the party. I am a man of character.”

Also yesterday, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, refuted rumours making the rounds that Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has defected to another political party.
PDP said that nothing can be further from truth than the blantant, false rumour.
National Vice chairman of PDP in the South East, Chief Austin Umahi who made the clarification to Vanguard said that it is unthinkable that the Ebonyi state governor would defect to “a non-performing political party such as APC.”
The PDP National Vice chairman said his attention was drawn to the “false rumour,” and asked the general public to disregard it.
The PDP Vice chairman said: “This is not only a mischief but orchestrated by our detractors’ wicked imaginations that will never come to reality.
“It is absurd and unthinkable for anybody to fathom this wickedness because how could a reasonable person from the South East think of joining a failed and non existent APC in the zone.
“I make bold to say that this fabricated lie should be trashed because our governor remains PDP, body, soul and spirit.
“Power to PDP as God gives us this country for rescue come 2019 general elections.”
