Confusion as Pregnant woman die in Bayelsa after a punch to the Nose over N350 debt

A 43 years old woman, Mrs. Akumere Aregbare on Monday died after she was punched by another 38 years old woman during an argument over the delayed payment of a N350 debt owed her.

The deceased woman, who is an indigene of Ammasoma community, sustained a gash to the nose after being punched and was reportedly rushed to a church instead of a hospital.

According to community source, after a non-stop bleeding, she was later rushed to the hospital where she slumped and died.

A source claimed that the deceased was punched by a 38 years old woman identified as Eniekeduo Atabala. According to the source, “They both had dispute which led to a small fight and unfortunately the girl from Ogobiri hit the other woman at a bad spot, which led to her to death”

“The deceased went to seek repayment of her debt. The accused insisted that he does not have any money to pay. After much verbal embarrassment, she went inside and brought out the N350 to pay. But when the deceased continue raining verbal insult on the accused, she hit her in the nose.”

Some irate youths from Ammassoma community were later reported to have invaded the family home of the accused and set it ablaze in a reprisal attack. Two of the alleged arsonist were later arrested by the Police.

Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development.

He stated that “ On the 19th of Febuary,2023 at about 0900hours.One Mrs. Akumere Aregbare F.43years fought with one Eniekeduo Atabala .F. 38years at Ogobiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa State, the fighting led to the collapse of Mrs. Akumere. She was rushed to the General Hospital where she was confirmed dead. The corpse was evacuated to the mortuary, while the suspect was arrested.”
