THE Forum of PDP New Media Aides (PDP-NMA) has condemned the unlawfully detention without trial of the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), challenging the commission to charge him to court if it has evidence of corruption against him.

PDP-NMA asked; “What is stopping the EFCC from charging Fayose to court since it claimed to have overwhelming evidence against him? What is the anti-graft agency afraid of? Why engaging in media trial instead of going to court?”

The group, in a statement released by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Edoko Wilson Edoko, described the EFCC infringement on the fundamental human rights of the former governor as not only dishonourable but draconian, stating that the anti-graft agency’s earlier claim of possessing overwhelming evidence against Fayose was enough to charge him to court and not keep him in detention since Tuesday.

PDP-NMA, noted with sadness, the conspiracy by the presidency in collaboration with the anti-graft agency to intimidate and silence opposing voices like Fayose, who has been very vocal against the punitive and anti-people policies of the present administration.

It said that EFCC was acting more like a persecuting agency was made manifest in a tweet posted on the official twitter handle of the (@officialEFCC), hours after the results of the July 14, 2017 Ekiti gubernatorial election results were made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

EFCC had written on twitter at exactly 12:37pm on July 15, 2018 that: “The Parri is over, The cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken, Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3Billion fraud case file dusted of the shelves. See you soon.”

Shamefully, hours after the tweet was published, the EFCC deleted the mischievous tweet after coming under serious fire from Nigerians for threatening to arrest Fayose, an indication that God almighty used their same tool to expose the presidency’s heinously orchestrated plan.

The group said; “Come to think of it, how did the Anti-graft agency make a swift switch from their earlier announced allegation to the current tale of over the N1.3 billion and $5.377 million, allegedly traced to him from the N4.6 billion slush funds? Does it mean the EFCC in their usual cut and paste investigations, pointless, desperate and stereotypic mode of operation, doesn’t have anything tangibly substantiating against Fayose?

“Consequently, the courageous and exemplary leadership disposition of the former governor of Ekiti state Ayodele Fayose must be applauded especially in the manner he acknowledged the invitation from the EFCC headquarters at Abuja few hours after his immunity got exhausted to answer to the allegations against him.

“Predictably, it is quite laughable that the only avenue to accomplish their miscalculated attempts to rubbish Fayose is by connecting him with alleged campaign funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA dating back to 2015.

“Ostensibly, the allegations that he received about N1.3bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser through the then Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro still baffles a lot of sane Nigerians as the same Obanikoro who happened to be a major actor in the melodrama has since joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as atonement for his sins. If we may also ask; when will Obanikoro be charged to court by the EFCC?

“Has Obanikoro been exonerated like his fellow compatriot, Babachir Lawal, Buhari’s former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) who was reportedly caught red-handed by the National Assembly siphoning millions of naira through contracts met for Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps?

“The reality today is that Nigerians are now wiser and can’t be fooled again by the failed antics of the Buhari led APC government and no amount of incarceration of opposition figures like Fayose will return Buhari to power in 2019.”
