The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, BYSIEC, has clarified that it is unaware of any court order restraining it from conducting the August 10th Local Government Council elections as being reported by a section of the media.

A statement by the Commissioner, Legal Services, BYSIEC explains that “the Commission is yet to receive any such notice from any court of competent jurisdiction” and asked interest groups and the voting public to discountenance the said report.

The Commission however said, as a legal entity, if any legal process was instituted against it by any person or groups of persons, it would address it through established procedures and not on the pages of newspapers nor media platforms.

It further enjoins Bayelsans to work in synergy with BYSIEC as the Commission is taking all necessary steps to conduct a free, fair and credible local government council election on August 10, 2019 as scheduled.

According to the time-table earlier released by BYSIEC; July 9 is deadline for submission of Nomination Forms by Political Parties while Publication of Official Register of Voters for the election is July 12, 2019.
