President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to intervene on the issue of flood ravaging states across the country.

Several states have been badly affected by floods in the past months. This, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has led to the death of over 300 persons and the displacement of many.

NAIJA LIVE TV reported how media reports in four months showed that more than 200 persons died from flooding.

State governors have complained to the presidency over the impact of the flooding, adding that the government should intervene by providing special funds to address the problem.

Speaking at a state house meeting in Abuja on Friday, Buhari asked the governors to meet with the minister of water resources and come up with lasting solutions.

He said the solutions should be communicated to the federal government in order to alleviate the plight of people affected by the floods.

He said when he receives the report, then “we will see what to do”.

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto, said the flooding has created a frightening scenario on food security in the country.

The increase in rainfall, exacerbated by climate change and the release of the Lagdo dam in Cameroon, has resulted in flooding which has had significant impact on communities across the country.
