Roman Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev, Dr. Ignatius Kaigama, has said that there is extremely poverty in the country, which needs to be addressed.
Kaigama stated this in Abuja, during the 2019 SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nyanya Feast and Cultural Day celebration.
He said that time has come to join forces both spiritual and material to address the problem. He revealed that they are doing their own part as spiritual leaders to see to the social welfare of the people, adding that it is not enough to look after the interest of those at top but to also look at those at the grassroots.
According to the Bishop, “there is poverty in the land, extreme poverty and we must join forces to defeat this, we can do it, because we have the blessing of God, we have the resources and we can do something, let there be political will and let there be consideration for humanity and it will work.”
“If poverty and insecurity are to be tackled in this country, our leaders must be humble and selfless in whatever they do,” he added.
Advising the new confirmed Catholics he said, “You have the responsibility of transforming the society by your way of life, you should always pray for gift of humility to better the country. Even if people do not praise you or reward you, God will always be pleased with you. We will never discriminate when we have the habit of praying together.”
He also urged Christians and Muslims to fashion out a way to live in harmony in order to move the country forward.
He confirmed over 400 people as ambassadors of Christ, and urged them to emulate Christ by living a life of holiness and be responsible Christians.
Kaigama called on the federal government to find lasting solution to the farmers and herdsmen’s crisis in the country, adding that in the interest of peace, Nigerians must work together to overcome the challenge by living holy life, loving one another and staying together in peace and harmony.
The Parish Priest of the SS Peter and Paul Nyanya, Rev, Father Kale Francis noted that the confirmation in Catholic Church is a serious business.
He said that confirmation makes the confirmed a soldier of Christ and ambassador of love and peace to the world.
