Authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command yesterday paraded suspected armed robbers, cultists and kidnappers arrested at various locations in Yenagoa, the State capital during a stop and search operations.

Also recovered from the suspects are various calibre of fire arms including two unserviceable and locally made A. K47 rifles used to abduct an eight years old girl that was later rescued by the police.

The Bayelsa Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sholla David, while parading the suspects at the headquarters of the Command, said the arrests were made after a proactive measure put in place by the command to exposition and rejigged it’s security architecture to confront violent crimes in the state.

He said though the Police Command’s focussed and intelligence driven raid on flash pots, rigorous stop and search operations on motorists and tricycles had helped in most of the arrests, the functional community policing programme has paid off with the arrest of armed robbers, recovery of firearms and arrest of suspected cultists among others.

In one of the cases, a four-man armed robbery gang, operating in a commercial tricycle with Registration number YEN 035 VW and armed with a locally made pistol robbed one female resident identified Kelly Effiong along Ebis Road of Broccoli, Yenagoa of her techno phone valued at N45,000 and iITEL phone valued at N4,500.

According to the Police, the Armed robbers on sighting the police, “engaged in gun battle and the policemen fired back. One Precious John aged 19years was arrested after being shot in the leg and a locally made pistol was recovered”
On the rising cases of cultism and cult related crimes in the state Capital, Commissioner Sholla David said though the police are on their trail, “the command need the support of the members of the community to be able to confront and challenge these daredevil criminals”

According to him, “The new partnership with the public and community is in line with the Inspector -General of Police policing mantra based on community policing. The need for active participation of members of the community in active policing cannot be overemphasise. “
