BAYELSA: It is not over for David Lyon

It is not over for David Lyon, the governor-elect who was sacks by Supreme Court over certificate forgery of his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.

Politically Lyon has a bright future and all hope of becoming the governor of Bayelsa state is not lost.

This is not saying Lyon stand a chance to be returned as a governor by possible review of decision of Supreme Court decision that ruined his chance to be the first non Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor of Bayelsa State.

However, the followings are pointers to a bright political future for Lyon if he is smart enough to make good decision.

First, he has age on his side. This makes him appeal to young Bayelsans who desire to see new crop of leaders take over leadership and governance of the state. This in itself is immaterial but could be a great adavantagr if he regardless of this set continues to engage with the electorates.

Two, Lyon is much popular in the Bayelsa State. The outcome of the election, that saw PDP a party that has ruled Bayelsa State since it was created, tellingly showed his acceptance and popularity.

The protests that threw the state into chaos after he was sacked is another pointer to the fact that he has much people at the grassroot. This is a huge capital in politics so long he keeps his politics machinery running in the state.

Three, the crack in the PDP and its poor performance paved way for Lyon to be elected at the poll in the first place. As such, as the crack gets wider, seeing Timi Alaibe of former president Goodluck Jonathan’s camp continue to trouble Douye Diri, one could expect electorates to repeat what they did during the governorship election.

Four, Lyon is rich. No one can take out the place of money in our politics. As such, if he is able to pump money to maintain his politics structure, the next election will be a easy to win one for him.

Lastly, as a victim of the carelessness and sins of his deputy, Lyon has sympathisers across the state and outside the state. This makes him next APC governorship candidate as long as he plays his politics well.
