Indigenes of Toru-Orua Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa has faulted as “False Claims” and “wicked” the calls by some groups in the state for the sack of the Commander of the base 22 Toru-Orua Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the State Police Command, Chief Supretendent of Police (CSP) Daniel Okeke Chukuma.

According to the concerned indigenes of Toru Orua community, where the commanding base of the CTU is located, calls and allegations leveled against the CTU commander is calous and an attempt to instigate breach of security due to their selfish attempt to impose one Supretendent of Police, Johnbull Obioguru as Commander of the counter terrorism Unit in the state.

The Indigenes of the Toru Orua community under the aegis of Toru Orua Youths for progress and development, led by Samuel Justice, accused the petitioners as those involved in distracting police work and exposing the CTU and Nigerian Police to ridicule and possible attacks.

According to the statement issued in Yenagoa and signed by Comrade Samuel Justice, alleged that the petition was sponsored against Commander Daniel Okeke because the State Government and the people of Sagbama Local Government rejected the replacement of Okeke with another person.

According to the statement, “those lobbying for the position of Commander of CTU are behind these.

There is no iota of truth in the petition. Rather Daniel Okeke has performed beyond expectation inspire of the inadequate personnel and logistics. The present commander has recorded achievement in the last five months of arrival. He led his men to quell the uprising in the University town of Ammassoma and due to diligent stop and search Operations along the road leading to the CTU operational base, two rifles and ammunition were recovered with the suspects arrested. ”

“The activities of the CTU and other deployment done by Commander had the approval of the Commissioner of Police. There is no truth in the claim that the two vehicle handed to the CTU were hired to the SPDC. One Hilux vehicle is used for outside patrol and the other for the office.

“while exposing their desperation and ignorance, the CTU base which was alleged to be porous in security, is secured with mounted check points and barriers. CTU personnel, which were not enough, can not be used as security guard as claimed by the mischief makers.”

The indigenes of the community however commended Commander Daniel Okeke and described him as a gallant officer who have so far mixed hard work, professionalism and community relation with policing, “when the base was being built in conjunction with the State Ministry of work, the CTU commander was seen engaging in labour works with personal for quick completion of the base. ”

Meanwhile, Some of the angry personnel of the CTU, had earlier on tuesday in the petition dated 17th of July, 2018 and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police, Counter Terrorism Unit, Force Headquaters, complained against Commander Daniel Okeke for incompetency and corrupt practice.

“The Personnel of the base have encountered so many challenges regards to their welfare due to lack of administrative office. We were in the dark, we don’t know what is going on in the Nigeria Police today some of us are promoted to their next rank but they can not update their record due to lack of the Admin office. We are truncated from the force headquarters, no lectures regarding to what is happening within the force.”
