A Bayelsa State owned online media group, NAIJA LIVE TV, has voted Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has the Governor of the Year Award, 2021, declaring that he is Youth friendly and rated high in the area of infrastructural development, peace advocacy across the various geo-political zone of the country.

Also awarded are Hon. Preye Influence Oseke, the member of Federal House of Representatives representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency as the Most Outstanding Federal Lawmaker of the Year, Senator Moses Cleapas representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District of the State emerged Senator of the Year and A former Speaker of Bayelsa Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Edwin Obolo-Bubou of Southern Ijaw Constituency 2 emerged most outstanding State Legislator of the Year.

Hon. Kia Ebidoughebofa Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of the Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State emerged Best Local Government Chairman in Bayelsa, Col Milland Dikio (Rtd), the Interim
Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Program emerged the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador of the Year.

Three companies involved in Oil servicing, Engineering and software development, Bee-Multi World Plus Ltd, Zeetin Engineering and Ayaweisoft LTD emerged Best Indigenous Company in the Oil & Gas Sector, Best Innovative Indigenous Company in the Nigerian Manufacturing Industry and Most innovative & enterprising startup of the year.

The award ceremony, which was done virtually and followed by over 400,000 followers, witnessed by the Hon. Preye Influence Oseke represented by his legislative aide, Hon. Donald Gbalebo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bee-Multi World plus Ltd, Hon. Bello Bina represented by the Administrative Secretary, Godsgift Ouseibai and Rt.Hon. Monday Obolo Bubou and the Chairman of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Council, Chief Kia Nigeria represented by the Political Secretary of the Council, Hon. Mao Tari Onini.

They all expressed appreciation for the recognition and promised to continue to support and encourage the online media towards achieving fairness and balance in the reportage of happening in Bayelsa, the Niger Delta region and the nation at large.

The Chief Executive officer of the NAIJA LIVE TV, Saint Miepamo Onitsha, while speaking yesterday during the 5th Year anniversary of the Media Organization, noted that the emergence of the award winner was voted for by the over 2million followers of the media company online.

Onitsha also pointed out that despite the numerous challenges facing the media organization including the illegal arrest of the Publisher and Chief Executive officer, threat to life and threat of kidnap by unknown persons, “none of these challenges have stopped the media organization from practicing. We never allowed the challenges to discourage us. Instead, we learn, pick up ourselves and do even better.”

“We have tried to live above the bar by giving authentic reportage and balance our stories.it is this show of professionalism that has earned us many accolades and recognition locally and globally ,even in the face of all our challenges. Just recently, I was awarded as the best Investigative Media Man of the Year, 2021. “

Earlier, the Former General Manager of the Bayelsa State Radio Corporation, Radio Bayelsa, Dr. John Idumande, who is the guest lecturer at the 5th Anniversary celebration titled ” The Role of Social Media in Strengthening Public Institutions in Nigeria : A Binary Option”, pointed out that since the popularization of the social media, bloggers and social media activists have become the new independent media by providing the much-needed space in the demand for accountability and open governance.

“However, no sooner have the social media been identified as the new outlet in the demand for open governance and accountability than governments resort to the old tactics used in clamping down on free expression in the conventional media. We have not forgotten past efforts at controlling the social media.”

The Chairman of the occasion and Former Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries, Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, who was represented by Comrade Robinson Erebi , commended the Online Medium, NAIJA LIVE TV for its contribution in the last five years to media reportage of Bayelsa, the Niger Delta region and the Nation at large,” it has shown that this a well-organized media outfit.”

He called on the political class to exercise patience and explore the option of right of reply to reports instead of applying threats of arrest and attacks on media practitioners in the country. He also pointed out that the country is in a tender situation as regards the 2023 election year, urging media practitioners to do more in the area of enlightening the governed and the Government on peaceful conduct and violent free transition.

In their separate contributions, two Panelists, a lawyer and Communication expert, Barr. Oraye St. Franklyn and a Public Commentator, Comrade Barnabas Maclint, agreed that the online media coverage has provided a veritable platform for the Nigerian Public to participate in governance,” It has provided access to the Nigerian public to express their position in politics and governance. It provide the Government and the Governed to bring something to the table. It has provided capacity to have influence of politics.”
