The Magistrate Court sitting in Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra state has given an order stopping the burial of fiery Nnewi Catholic Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Amaobi Nwagbala from holding as scheduled.
The court granted an interim order of injunction, suspending the burial of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Amaobi Nwagbala, whose burial was scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 15th January 2020.
It will be recalled that Anaedonline.com reported that tragedy struck on Saturday, 16th November 2019, at St. Peter’s Clever Catholic Church Odida Nnewichi, Nnewi, after a fire explosion killed the Parish Priest of the Church, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala under a controversial circumstance in his residence.
According to reports, some aggrieved members of the family, including late Very. Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala siblings are insisting that until a proper autopsy and all investigation about the death of their brother is completed, the burial will not hold.
Dissatisfied with the burial arrangement of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, the family approached the court praying it to stop the burial fixed for January 15th, 16th and 17th 2020.
The family secured a court order restraining the 1st Defendant/Respondent (Commissioner of Police Anambra State) from authorizing the 2nd Defendant (Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Odili Okeke) or priests, servants or workers serving under him from burying or performing the burial/funeral ceremony of the said Very Rev. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala (Deceased).
The court also stopped the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, from releasing the body of Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala to the 2nd Defendant (Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Odili Okeke) or any other person under his control, command or direction for burial until the completion of a fresh and proper autopsy to be conducted on the d**d body of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala.
