The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today has reversed the de-registration of 74 political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In a unanimous decision by the panel of Justice of the Court of Appeal, the Court declared as illegal, unconstitutional and void, the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in deregistrating political Parties while the matter was pending in Court.

The Court of Appeal stressed the need for the Executive arm of government to follow laid down procedures in discharging its constitutional duties.

NAIJA LIVE TV earlier reported that Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party [ANDP] has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] to court for excluding it from the election held on November 12 last year in Bayelsa State.

ANDP asked the court to put an end to nascent term of the Senator Douye Diri and order a fresh election in Bayelsa with them included on the ballot paper.

The Respondents in the case, on the other hand, are the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and Douye Diri who was sworn in more than five months ago.

If the case pulls through, residents of Bayelsa will return to the poll to elect a new governor of the state.
