Those who hail from Edo and Delta States may have heard of Ambrose Folorunsho Alli. A Medical Professor who served as the Civilian Governor of old Bendel State from 1979 – 1983. That was when President Muhammadu Buhari was a Military Head Of State.

The Ondo State born politician was well known for his developmental achievements in the education sector when he was Governor of the old Bendel State now Edo and Delta States.

No wonder he was named after Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State.

But an interesting thing happened when he was Governor. He was found guilty by the Military Tribunal under Buhari Junta for mismanaging N983,000 meant for road project.

He was later sent to jail for 100 years. But after 37 years of that jail sentence, President Muhammadu Buhari whose then military regime sent him to jail has granted him Presidential Posthumous Pardon.

Alot of Nigerians have asked why the President granted him a Pardon when he has died a long time ago.

But the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola said that the President also granted some prisoners at the Kuje Correctional Centre Pardon in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Although Ambrose Ali is no more, the University of Birmingham graduate who died in 1989 exactly on his 60th birthday is one of the great men Nigeria had.
