Alleged Fraud: Human Rights group raises alarm over politicians’ plot against NDDC acting MD, others

A Human Rights Advocacy group known as Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Defence of Human Rights (NDCPDHR) has raised alarm over alleged desperate attempts by some politicians to launch a sustained attack on the administration of the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Professor Nelson Branbaifa over frivolous allegations of fraudulent award of contracts and mismanagement.

According to the group, preliminary investigation into the alleged plot being carried out by the anti-Branbaifa elements from the Niger Delta region showed a systematic and desperate plot to discredit the achievement made in the area of sustained stakeholders consultation, payment of genuine contractors owed by the commission and increased empowerment of youths in the region.

The Human Rights Advocacy group, the Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Defence of Human Rights (NDCPDHR),in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Nelson Patrick, said such desperate act of allegation include the alleged award of contract worth millions of Naira to one Scott Tommy porpurted to be prominent Oik and Gas Businessman with record of fraud before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) owing to his unscrupulous acts.

According to the group,”though we have been vocal against corruption and corrupt practices within the fold of Government agencied,judiciary, government parastatals and agencies, we have discovered that the numerous claims of alleged fraud and protests sponsored against the Professor Nelson Branbaifa led NDDC is politically motivated and targetedat provoking his removal by President Muhammadu Buhari. And we know it will not work as President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the dangerous tricks launched by these failed elements.”

“Contrary to the false claim that Prof. Nelson Branbaifa has turned his office into a philanthropic centre as several ladies who allegedly are his girlfriends and cronies countlessly troupe in to receive their share of the embezzled money, the NDDC Acting Managing Director is committed to work in line with Mr president anti corruption stance  in order to usher in new level of massive infrastructural and  human capital development centred on  youth and rural women empowerment programs across the Niger Delta.”

The group insisted that though several allegations athat have no basis, have been put out including the issue of photo-shop houses and cars allegedly procured by the son of the Acting Managing Director” all in a bid to discredit the good work Brambaifa has started at the NDDC.”

“Contrary to their claims on non-payment for the water hyacint clearance contract, the NDDC under Brambaifa is not owing any contractor, rather the payments are being done in batches after due diligence have been conducted on the job done by each contractor”.

“On the Volunteer Surveillance contracts, we want to set  the records  straight that the NDDC is still  processing the relevant documents of all those  that applied for the job to ensure that  they get their due rewards”.

“In the last couple of months of his being at the helm of affairs at the NDDC,  Brambaifa has demonstrated his unalloyed commitment to the mission and vision of the organisation by his words and deeds.  He has taken steps to tackle the perennial problem of water hyacinth across the creeks of the Niger Delta.”
