The Senator Sam Egwu-led Senate Ad hoc panel mandated to investigate alleged misconduct of Senator Elisha Abbo (PDP Adamawa), on Wednesday reported to the Senate in session that the victim of the purported assault by the lawmaker as contained a video that went viral did not honour the invitation of the committee.

Senator Egwu said all efforts by his committee to get both the assaulted lady and the shop owner appear before the committee failed to yield results as none of the two appeared before his committee.

He also told the senate that Senator Abbo refused to make submissions before the committee owing to the case already instituted in Court by the police, insisting that doing so would be subjudice.

Egwu also said that both the FCT Commissioner of Police and the lawyers to the victims also refused to make submissions citing the issue of subjudice.

The Chairman of the committee therefore requested that the matter be stepped down pending the determination of the criminal case instituted against Abbo by the police.

However, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan overruled Senator Egwu’s request and directed the committee to go ahead with its work notwithstanding the court case.

Lawan said what the Senate was investigating was the alleged misconduct of its member and not the criminal case against him which is already being handled by the police.

Accordingly, Senator Egwu sought the permission of the leadership for a one-week extension to enable the committee complete its investigation and submit its report which was granted by the President of the Senate.
