Akwa Ibom HoS charges auditors to enrich themselves at serminar

UYO – Auditors with the Akwa Ibom State Government and counterparts in the Local Governments of the State have been urged to take advantage of the pre-promotion serminars organized by the State Audit Service Commission to enrich themselves ahead of their promotion examination and interviews.

Head of Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien gave the advice during the maiden pre-promotion examination serminar for auditors in the office of the State Auditor-General and those in the office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments held in Uyo.

Addressing the 70 candidates, Elder Effiong Essien noted that, the Seminar, aside from preparing them for promotion examination, was also aimed at broadening and refreshing their knowledge base on what is expected of them in terms of attitude, ethics and professionalism for effective service delivery.

He observed that, the modifications in the curriculum for the seminar and examination would help meet the peculiar training needs of the auditors.

The Head of Civil Service also informed the participants that, the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, in an effort to enforce probity and accountability in the public service in line with global best practices, assented to the law which established the State Audit Service Commission (SASC) in 2021.

Elder Essien further maintaned that, the wealth of experience of the five retired permanent secretaries appointed as Chairman and commissioners respectively, in the Commission and the successful transfer of all auditors to the State Audit Service Commission would fast tracked its operations and given the Auditors a renewed sense of belonging and commitment.

The HoS expressed his appreciation to Governor Emmanuel for setting up the commission and supporting it to accomplish its mandate.

He also thanked the Chairman of the State Audit Service Commission, Pastor Bassey Umoh and the Commissioners for their concerted effort at implementing the assigned responsibilities.

Earlier, Chairman of the State Audit Service Commission, Pastor Bassey Umoh thanked the State Governor for constituting and empowering the commission and listed the duties of the commission to include, formulation and implementation of audit policies, ensuring discipline, transfer, confirmation and promotion of staff of the Commission.

He also appreciated the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien and the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh for their cooperation and for facilitating the smooth transfer of Audit Staff to the Commission.

He charged the Auditors to always work hard by showing diligence, dignity and integrity to resiprocate the Governors concern for them.
