“Before now, the local government administration in the state was characterised by Caretaker Committees or Transition Committees, but we decided to change the narrative by conducting election in the council areas to bring new leaders to succeed those ones whose tenure has expired. It has not happened before in the state.

“Records in my office indicate that eight political parties will participate in the coming local government polls. The eight political parties are captured in the ballot papers,” Ikoiwak said.

The Chairman of the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security and the Commissioner of Police in the State, Andrew Amiengheme, said all security agencies will be fully mobilized for the election.

Amiengheme said that the command will partner with other security agencies in the state to ensure peace before, during and after the council elections.

He cautioned politicians to play the game according to the rules and advise their supporters to remain peaceful. He said that there will be restrictions of movement within the voting period and warned criminals to stay off the voting arena as law enforcement agencies will not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice.
