ICYMI: How #EndSARS protesters forced Lagos CP to trek a distance of over 10km

Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos commissioner of police(CP), was forced to alight from his car and trek a distance of over 10 kilometers on Monday.

Odumosu, who went to the Okota area of the state to visit Durojaiye Olaleye, a 68-year-old woman who was assaulted by a policeman, was denied to access the place through his convoy.

In a statement, Muyiwa Adejobi, spokesman of the Lagos police command, said the protesters refused to lift the barricade for the CP and his team despite multiple appeals and explanations.

“The Commissioner of Police, who had earlier been denied access at the Murtala Mohammed Airport toll gate in Ikeja by Endsars protesters, ran into a similar barricade at NNPC junction, Okota, where the hyper-aggressive protesters insisted that CP Hakeem Odumosu and team alight from their official cars and trek that long distance despite series of explanation and appeal on the command’s mission in the area, ” Adejobi said.

“The Commissioner of Police, like every other officer in Lagos State, who has been professional in tolerating and managing several harassments, intimidations and provocations from the protesters, obliged and trekked for peace to reign.”

The CP apologised to Olaleye and assured her that the erring officer will face the force disciplinary committee for appropriate punishment.

He encouraged citizens to report all conducts of police officers and men to the command for appropriate disciplinary actions.

The officer who assaulted the woman was identified as Tunji Ajakaiye, a superintendent of police, and formerly the second-in-command of the disbanded anti kidnapping unit in Surulere.
