The occupation and subsequent raising down of AZAGBENE community in Ekeremor Council Area of Bayelsa State by a detachment of the Nigerian Army has been described as a very sad display of unprofessional conduct and a great breach of healthy Military – Civilian relations as always preached by the Nigerian Army and other law enforcement agencies
A former top Career Ambassador and Super Federal Permanent Secretary, Dr Godknows Boladei Igali, in a letter to the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, express sorrow and pain over the wanton destruction in it entirety, saying the Military would have deployed intelligence in fishing out the criminals. Igali, who is also a respectively historian reminded the Army boss of the existing laws at the international level, such as the Geneva and The Hague Conventions dealing with protection of innocent people even in the face of war.
Igali however frowned at the brutal killing of the two military officers of the 16th Brigade on special duty in protecting SPDC facility.
He further advised the Army Chief to investigate the matter and bring erring officers to book. He also appealed to the Federal Government to rebuild the community and provide relief materials to the displaced people of AZAGBENE to started life afresh.
On the part of the slained military officers Igali called on all from the area to join forces with the military in bringing the criminals to face the music. He also sent condolences to the families of affected families .
In the meantime, he pledged to lead other philanthropic people to join to donate generously and bring immediate relief to Azagbene and neighbouring communities.
