UYO – The Governorship flag bearer of Young Progressives Party (YPP), in Akwa Ibom Obong Bassey Albert yesterday, unveiled Chief Asuquo Amba as his running mate in the forthcoming 2023 gubernatoral election in Akwa Ibom State.

Amba, a retired Asistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, hails from Mbokpu Ukokai in Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Borned in 1961, his service records revealed that, the former police chief obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1973 from Salvation Army School, Surulere before proceeding to Comprehensive Secondary School, Oron to obtain his West African Senior School Certificate in 1978.

He is a graduate of English from the University of Lagos (1984) and had a brief stint with the Polytechnic, Ibadan as a lecturer after his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in 1985.

Chief Amba joined the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet ASP in 1986, and rose through the ranks as Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and, Commissioner of Police at various times in the training department at force headquarters.

He previously served as a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anti Bomb unit; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police command; Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State; Commissioner of Police, Counter Terrorism Department and Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State command.

He retired from the police force as an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in February 2021, after 35 years deligent service to the nation.

During these period, Chief Amba had received several commendations and awards for humanitarian services from organizations such as the United Nations and Rotary Club.

He is Grand-member of the International Association of Commissioner of Police (IACP), USA.

His wealth of experience in peacekeeping missions in Liberia, East Timor and other locations globally will surely add tremendous value to YPP as a party in the quest to enhance human, environmental and physical security for quantum development of Akwa Ibom State.

AIG Amba (Rtd.) is married to Chief Mrs.Janet Amba with six children and two grandchildren.

The Governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert while presenting him to the party at the YPP State Secretariat in Uyo said, “with the consent of members of our party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Organization, I am pleased to announce the choice of retired Assitant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Chief Asuquo Amba as my running mate in the 2023 gubernatoral election in Akwa Ibom State”.

The choice of Chief Amba Asuquo as Deputy Governorship candidate of YPP, is a perfect fit to Senator Akpan’s candidacy.
