UYO – Lagos business man, Engr. Bassey Itama has called on Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom to withdraw his annointed candidate, Mr. Umo Bassey Eno from the race as Governorship hopeful or address a world press conference to clear the doubts surrounding the certificates scandal against the candidate, now that window for replacement of candidates is on at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Itama, was speaking from Lagos sayinh that, the certificate scandal against the Akwa Ibom People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship candidate is embarrassing to the people and State Government.
He advised Mr. Eno to bury his pride and address an international press conference to clear the webs sourounding his certificates status to put an end to it, rather than dribling himself round the truth.
According to Itama, “In my opinion, Umo Eno should save himself and the people of Akwa Ibom State the truth from further embarrassment by doing the needful.
“Tendering of documents in court is beating round the bush.
“If Umo Eno is sure of himself and his credentials are authentic; for heaven’s sake, l will advise him to have a world press conference and tender all his credentials for the public to see.
“It will now be the responsibility of the public to confirm through appropriate institutions, whether what he has tendered are true or false.
“If I were the one involved in this saga, precisely this is what I will do; unless there is something to hide”.
Itama was former Public Affairs Manager with Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State and also, indigene of Esit Eket Local Government Area of the State.
While also expressing his concern on the saga advised Governor Emmanuel to prevail on his anointed candidate to do the needful and “stop insulting our sensibilities”.
He added that, the clumsiness observed so far in the matter is an indication that, something is wrong somewhere.
Engr. Itama however stressed that, to engage seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) alongside other legal luminaries in a simple matter such as authentication of certificates is an insult on the sensibilities of indigenes of the State.
He noted that, “having submitted a copy of confirmation of result from WAEC in Court and later withdrawing same for a testimonial from the school authorities is an indication that all is not well”, adding that, the Governor should either withdraw Umo Eno from the race, now that the window in INEC is still open or call a world Press conference and stop further embarrassment.
While commending INEC for the elections in Ekiti and Osun States, urged the electorate to be wise and refrain from selling their votes for peanuts in the forthcoming general elections in the State.
