The President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Comrade Chris Isiguzo has berated the National Assembly for voting against electronic transmission of voting results describing their action as a coup against electorates ahead of the 2023 general election.

Isiguzo who made his position known on Saturday in Lokoja at the grand finale of Kogi State council of the NUJ Press Week demanded a credible electoral act that will conform to the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

He said the country cannot continue to have an electoral process riddled with complaints.

Isiguzo added that a better electoral process would go a long way to improve the international image of the country.

According to him, the country’s electoral process must be made free, fair and transparent.

The NUJ President stressed further that the electoral umpire would need the support of all Nigerians to achieve a more credible electoral process.

Meanwhile, the NUJ President has frowned at the present state of facilities at the NUJ press centre.

Isiguzo while urging the state government, to without delay, make good its promises to the NUJ in Kogi State noted that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the comfort of journalists.

The NUJ president stressed the need to give the NUJ press centre, a befitting facelift, adding that the state of the premises, is nothing to write home about.

Insecurity: Government must rise to challenges – NUJHe urged the state to take a cue from other states, pointing out that the Press Centre is a public facility.

Earlier, the Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Momohjimoh Adeiza, in his welcome address urged the state government to pay off the entitlements of some of its deceased members.

Adeiza noted the payment of the deceased Journalists entitlement would help alleviate the hardship their death has on their families.

According to him, in the last year, the council lost three of its members, two of them were in the service of the government before their demise.
