Senator Abu Ibrahim (APC Katsina South) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not stressing themselves on campaigns because there are no credible and competent candidates challenging Buhari.

Ibrahim who is the chairman, Senate Committee of NLC and Labour Matters, also urged the organised labour to shelve their proposed nationwide strike over the minimum wage agitation.

He told Daily Trust on Sunday in Abuja that the President is not vigorously campaigning because he did not have very good competitors.

“There is no serious or credible contender against Buhari. Atiku is not comparable with Buhari. Some people may choose Atiku because of mischief, but not because he is credible or competent,” Ibrahim said.

When asked what the President would do if the PDP springs surprises, he said some people may vote against the APC because of ill-feeling, regional interests, or personal reasons and not because of the credibility of Atiku.

“The PDP started the campaign, where are they now? It is like a marathon and we are giving them some kilometers before we overtake them,” he said.

On his expectations on the elections in the face of rising insecurity in parts of the country, he urged Nigerians to see the elections as part of consolidation of the present administration’s successes.

On the planned strike by the NLC over the minimum wage, he said the President is doing his best, trying to convince the state to pay the minimum wage.
