An Ijaw Group known as the G24 Embasara Foundation has warned those aspiring to succeed Governor Seriake Dickson in 2019/2020 to be ready to sign a pact on the initiation of recall process from office if he fails to adhere to good governance, accountability and proper leadership.

The non-partisan group, in a communique issued at the end of a one day summit on theme: “Key Indices for Visionary Leadership, Good Governance and Sustainable Development in Bayelsa” declared that appropriate steps shall be initiated to enforce the recall or removal of any leader who is found to have abused, undermine and flouted the Code of Public Governance

The convener of the meeting held in Yenagoa on Wednesday stated in the 18 point communique issued by Patterson Ogon, stated that the G24 Embasara Foundation, being a new leadership and governance initiative, believes in the emergence of an Ijaw society sustained in love, unity and prosperity, and living in peace with its neighbours.

According to the communique, “As part of its core goals it is to ensure the enthronement of insightful, accountable and purposeful leadership and governance for accelerated and sustainable development of Bayelsa State in particular and Ijaw land in general.”

“That the summit is not intended to monitor, judge or malign any previous or present government but to help define the next level for Bayelsa State.

“That Bayelsa State should not look at its progress and development in isolation but in comparison to other states in Nigeria.That Ijaw sons and daughters must not only strive to be good leaders but also active citizens by holding their leaders accountable”.

“That all aspiring to leadership positions in Bayelsa state should subscribe to the Ijaw Nation Code of Ethics, Leadership and Governance.That it will take a well organized, committed and foresighted leadership to actualize the dreams of the people, and that Bayelsans should have ethical standards they must hold themselves and their leaders to”.

“That Ijaw people deserve the basic facilities of modern living in our towns and villages.That governance should be participatory and all inclusive.That in order to promote domestic tourism and encourage bonding with the people, leaders should create the desired entrepreneurial environment”

“That appropriate steps shall be initiated to enforce the recall or removal of any leader who is found to have abused, undermine and flouted the Code of Public Governance.That there shall be an Ijaw Nationalode of Ethics, Leadership and Governance that will guide the conduct of all citizens, civil servants, leaders and institutions in Ijaw Nation”.

“That the Ijaw Nation Code of Ethics when adopted, shall be binding on all political office holders and Bayelsans, give the people the power to remove anybody that violates the code.That Bayelsans in particular and Ijaws in general should only look for, support and enthrone leaders who have the vision for sustainable development.”

“That Ijaw sons and daughters who are in the employment of public and private institutions shall demonstrate exceptional commitment to, and productivity in their workplace.”

“That our leaders must be flexible and create opportunities in order to build the capacity of the people for creative participation in governance. That Ijaws must support women involvement and participation in governance and build their capacity for visionary leadership.”

“That we should as a people carry out an empirical research about Bayelsa State to develop a shared vision for the future.That we cannot achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) unless we take care of our environment; therefore, we must demand an audit of our entire environment.”

“That government should devise the means of sustaining our economy without oil.”
