A group, the Brass Restoration Mandate, weekend expressed concern over the confusion being created in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Brass constituency 1 and 2 over the choice of an acceptable and popular candidates for the State Assembly polls, predicting that only a credible candidate can defeat the APC in the two constituencies without resorting to violence.
While the Brass Constituency 2 is home area of the Former Governor and the Leader of the APC, Chief Timipre Sylva, the Brass constituency 1 is the constituency being represented by the only APC member in the State Assembly, Hon. Isreal Sunny-Goli.
The group, the Brass Restoration Mandate (BRM) in a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa, said though many aspirants emerged in Odioma, Eweama, Okpoama and
other villages surrounding constituency 1 in 2015, the emergence of a popular candidate for the All Grand Progressive Alliance (APGA),, Hon. Alfred Belemote Watson defeated the combined parties of APC and the PDP.
The National Coordinator of the group, Deacon Alate James, stated that with the squabbles going on along PDP chapters in Brass 1 and 2, the PDP may fail the electio due to poor zoning and non-emergence of a popular candidate.
“Data available to us showed that Okpoama have the voting strength, 6800, Ewoma,3600 and Odioma,, 6150. In our sincere submission, we call on the State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson and the leadership of the party to nominate Hon. Alfred Belemote Watson as candidate of the party and retain the anticipated victory for the party. ”
“We should not allow the selfish interest of an aspirant for House of Representative to allow the party shame the so-called APC stallwart in the Brass constituency. We need a unified party to resist the anticipated violence the opposition party is known for. The Brass constituency are set to vote for the PDP with Hon. Alfred Belemote-Watson ”
According to the group, “the PDP will win if a credible selection process is made and the zoning is retained in Okpoama. We are aware that the crowd of aspirants in Odioma community has torn apart the party between the APC and the PDP with APC plotting to give the Assembly ticket to a minority. A plan the opposition is expecting to work with PDP choosing Odioma. ”
“while the Odioma choice is necessary, it is a not a wineavle strategy and can not deliver the needed victory for the PDP. Looking at all the PDP aspirants and with Hon. Alfred Belemote-Watson crossing over to the PDP, the search for credible, acceptable and popular candidate is over as he is the leading choice needed to unite the Odioma and other area for the PDP during the polls. “
