The Interim Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Col. Milland Dixon Dikio (Rtd), has said that the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, could be used to train beneficiaries of the Programme.

Dikio spoke when he visited the University on Tuesday as part of his tour of the Niger Delta region.

Dikio who was conducted on a tour of the institution’s facility by the Registrar, Mr. Anho Nathaniel Esoghene, was accompanied by the lawmaker representing Burutu Federal Constituency of Delta State, Mr. Julius Gbabojor Pondi.

He said that the Amnesty Office would carry out a holistic inspection of the NMU which according to him was in alignment with the policy to train the beneficiaries in a suitable environment that would bring out their natural talents.

“We will send a delegation from the PAP office to carry out a detailed inspection of the facilities here to ensure that it can adequately cater for the training needs of our ex-agitators. The maritime university aligns firmly with our philosophy of training our delegates in an environment that best suits their natural talent and inclinations.

On his part, the lawmaker urged the Federal Government to give priority to the funding of the maritime university.

He lamented that work on the permanent site has stopped and contractors have since abandoned the place due to lack of funds.
