A Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mr. Samuel Maagbe has revealed that steps are being taken to legally enlist Kogi as an oil-producing state.

Maagbe stated this during a meeting between RMAFC and stakeholders in Kogi State on Thursday. Maagbe explained that the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders at all levels on the challenges and opportunities of a review structure of the allocation formula among the federal, state, and local governments. Declaring the interactive session open, Governor Yahaya Bello said the efforts were laudable, giving that local governments, though least, form the crust of the whole structure.

The Kogi state governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Edward Onoja, stated that despite a lack of cash, his government has made Kogi a safe haven by effectively utilizing revenue sources that have been well-invested across the state’s 21 LGAs.

He said that this was the reason for the notable achievements in the fields of security, education, infrastructure, and employment.

Bello praised the ongoing efforts to improve the present allocation mechanism among the three levels of government, calling them admirable, necessary, and opportune.

He thanked the commission for taking the state into consideration for the directorate office.

The meeting was attended by the State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Mukadam Idris Asiru; members representing Idah and Omala State Constituencies, Hon. Suleiman Atajachi and Hon. Musa Collins, respectively; Mr. Ayodeji Adebayo, Director, RMAFC Lokoja Directorate; Mrs. Bolanle Olorunsaye, RMAFC Head Office, amongst others.
