Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be committed to free, fair and credible elections in the state.

It alleged that only three local government areas have received complete electoral materials out of the 23 councils in the state.

State Chairman of PDP, Felix Hassan Hyat, however, commended Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s statement that his government was committed to free and transparent elections on Saturday.

“Now that Governor el-Rufai has vowed not to allow threats and insecurity to threaten the February 23, 2019 elections in the state, we in the PDP stand behind him and will help him resist any attempts to postpone the elections.

“The people of Kaduna State are very anxious to cast their votes on Saturday. We, therefore, call on the governor to sincerely pursue this noble intention and ensure the sanctity of this date in our state,” he said.

Also, INEC concluded movement of sensitive materials for Saturday’s rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly polls to all the 16 local government areas yesterday in Ado-Ekiti.

The sorting and distribution of the materials started about 2pm on Wednesday at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s office in Ado-Ekiti.

Among items being distributed were card readers, ballot papers, result sheets, different versions of forms and registers, among others.

Leading political parties such as the PDP, APC, AA, and others were also on hand to monitor the distribution.

INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, who doubles as the Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Muslim Omoleke, who confirmed the distribution to newsmen, said it was part of proactive measures devised by the commission to avoid last Saturday’s incident.

Meanwhile, INEC in Kwara State has commenced the distribution of electoral materials across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The REC, Garba Attahiru Madami, said this while addressing journalists at the Ilorin branch of CBN where the electoral materials were kept.

Madami, who assured that the commission was prepared for the exercise, said this in the presence of 11 political party agents, local and international observers and representatives of various security agencies.
