Bayelsa Poll: Non-Indigenes Denied endorsing any Candidate

The Supreme Council for Non-Indigenes in Bayelsa State has not endorsed any political party or candidate in the forthcoming Bayelsa State governorship election.

Rising from its monthly Congress held on Sunday 29th September, 2019 the Council said this public statement becomes necessary following insinuations that the Council has thrown it weight behind a candidate in the on-going electioneering campaign.

A statement signed by the Supreme Council for Non-Indigenes Public Relations Officer, Mr Bethel Nwankwo  said the organisation is not a political group and not in the business of endorsement but would review the manifesto of candidates and listen to their campaigns before deciding on who to support.

The statement further added said it will only support a candidate who demonstrates enough metropolitan approach, factors the interest of residents of Bayelsa s and Bayelsans l into his manifesto without discrimination.

The Supreme Council for Non-Indigenes which is an amalgamation of Federating Unions of 33 states of the country residing and working in the state, urged all members to remain steadfast to their various lawful activities and ignore rumours of endorsement.

It assured them that they would be consulted through the organisation’s appropriate channels before declaring support for any of the candidates they found worthy of their votes.

Consequently, the Council set up its political contact group headed by its Vice President, Engr. Bartholomew Itepu. Other members are all community Presidents, the Council Woman Leader, the Assist. Secretary General and The Treasurer.

Meanwhile, the Council has congratulated the newly elected Presidents of Edo Community, Mr Frank Moses and his Cross River counterpart, Chief Ofem Reuben Effion on their elections to pilot affairs of their communities and urged them to continue to promote unity and love in their communities.

Congress urged them to also promote the welfare of their members at all time.
