It started that, on the 27th of May 2020, the two wives of the Bayelsa state governor- Mrs. Gloria Ebibomo Diri, the first lady of the state and the second wife, Barr. Mrs. Patience Ama Zuofa Douye-Diri- took the celebration to different venues in the state, which people saw as a cloud of disunity amongst the two wives.
Resultantly, social media users, particularly Bayelsans have taken tothe internet to express their opinions and also lambast the second wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Barr. Mrs. Patience Ama Zuofa Douye-Diri over the manner at which she celebrated this year’s children’s day.
According to most of these social media users, Barr. Patience celebrated the occasion all for the camera. They alleged that she only took her time to wish the children well all because of the public attention she wanted.
NAIJA LIVE TV sighted a social media user Ebiere Gilbert expressed, he bitterly criticized Governor Diri’s second wife, even alleging that she has no shame by bringing her deeds for the world to see:
It’s obvious that the second wife of the Bayelsa state governor, H.E Senator Douye Diri, doesn’t have shame, an obviously desperate woman.
Must you showcase yourself to the world that you are the governor’s wife as a learned lawyer? Douye Diri is not the first man to getmarried to a second wife as a governor and he is not going to be the last too.
In the history of Bayelsa state, none of the elected governors have done this, madam please stop disgracing your husband. You can be silent and still achieve your goal. Giving is good, give, but don’t bring it to the media for unwanted question and reactions, non-governor in Bayelsa history has done this.
Miracle governor, HE Senator Douye Diri, this is another miracle I guess?
The same internet user, Ebeire Gilbert went further to call out the governor’s second wife, and even indirectly tagged her a ‘busy body:’
You think other governor’s second wife don’t reach out? They do but not like this one who wants the whole world to s. if she’s not doing it with a motive, and then I’d say no need bringing it to the social media. Allow the first lady to do the showcasing by promoting her husband and not you the second lady. After all, Duoye Diri’s wives no reach Dickson wives, but none came up with busy body.
Another social media user even subtly gave Governor Diri an advice over his wives:
He should then control his wives not to drag his name to the mud, let him learn from Ofrimapepe on this matter. We cannot have two first ladies
However, despite these shaming, another social media user who typed in pidgin, Brakemi Angaye supported the second wife that what she is doing is right, as long as the governor, their husband, isn’t complaining:
You marry Barrister as second wife and you expect her not to talk. Former Delta governor, Ibori married three wives. Even Atiku’s three wives supported him very well during the campaign. Is Diri complaining?
Ipaga Ebi also stressed that:
Good one, I think we need only one first lady and not all this confusion. The second wife should support the first wife and work as a team.
Notably, a social media user who likes to remain anonymous gave a very funny analysis that:
There’s a big problem in case you people are not aware, the second wife is in heavy competition with the first lady from my finding. I have gotten so much information.
Another hilarious comment:
… Na wa for Bayelsa state o. two first lady for one administration, vanity upon vanity.
With issues like these occurring amidst citizens concerning the governor’s two wives, do you really think Bayelsa has two first ladies?
