The New Face, a support group in the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind the adoption of the direct Mode of Primaries for selecting the governorship flag bearer of the Party ahead of the November 16th Governorship election in the state.

According to the group, the adoption of direct primary as mode of party primary to choose the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the State would produce a credible and widely accepted candidate.

The Founder of the New Face group, Hon. Robert Desmond, in a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa via email, commended the State executives and stakeholders of Bayelsa APC for adopting direct primary, insisting that it will make for transparency in the entire process.

According to the group, “The recent decision taken by executives and stakeholders of the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Party, APC, to conduct direct primary is to say the least a welcome development. Thus we totally support this great decision taken by executives and leaders of our great party.’

“We believe that only such a mode of primary will give every member of the party an opportunity to participate in the process that would produce a credible, widely accepted flag-bearer and bring victory at November 16 polls,” the statement reads in part.’

The grassroot mobilizer maintained that the direct primary will give every member of the party a sense of belonging and strengthen the party, as well as establish the fact that Bayelsa APC believes in internal democracy.

Desmond admonished those who are kicking against the direct mode of primary to be flexible and accept the decision taken by majority of members of the party, which according to him, is for the greater good of all and sundry.

“While it is proper to raise our sincere and valid concerns on an issue, we must as faithful and committed APC members restrain ourselves from making statements that may cause bad blood in Bayelsa APC,” he stressed.

He further expressed hope that Bayelsa APC will defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the November 16 elections and bring the much-needed respite to Bayelsans.
