ADVERT RATE

The chief press secretary to the governor of Kogi state Onogwu Galaticos has stated that the actions of the Department of State Service (DSS) was carried out without the knowledge of the governor or government of Kogi state.

This was contained in a Facebook publication he personally made on his Facebook account in which he berated the scourge of ‘fake news’ in Nigeria insisting that His Excellency, Yahaya Bello is a man of peace who is not distracted by what people say about him.

His post reads thus:

“Just stumbled on this

” Like medical practitioners who fight to safe lives, journalism is another sensitive profession that does not only require knowledge but wisdom to practice. Its core basic ethics are truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, and public accountability. As medical practitioners work to avert preventable deaths, journalists work to avert war and chaos in many cases by applying the above ethics in practice.

“Today, the social media is saturated with deliberate disinformation or hoaxes with intention mostly to set a particular government against the people. This is fake news.

” On the 2nd of May, 2020, I received screenshot from some journalists of a tent destroyed by rainstorm which was allegedly built by the kogi state government at the cost of N7b. I also received calls from large number of people from within and outside the country all to verify the authenticity of the news. As journalist, what should come to mind first is the jurisdiction of the news source; state Government building isolation centre at the Federal Medical Centre, how? But for the fact that many writers are into journalism today, I gave the government position, that the news was fake, “we did not build any COVID-19 isolation centre at the FMC”.

“This news was authored by some opposition elements from the state who resident in Abuja (they will be picked in the days ahead) and made available to their allies and other conveyors of fake news. We know many of them who have tested positive to fake news that of Kogi origin.

“His Excellency, Yahaya Bello and his administration have been maligned, ridiculously embarrassed, misinterpreted, misrepresented and misjudged by this group of social media insurgents and when we asked the Governor to take action he simply reply “allow them to say whatever they want to say. Dont give them audience”.

“On this matter which has been instituted by the DSS without Governor’s knowledge and the knowledge of the Kogi state Government, we will join the law enforcement agency to complete their assignment in bringing this group of insurgents to book. They have asserted a thing and they must proof it.

“For Saint Bienpamo Onitsha, the CEO of naijalivetv.com, he has been granted bail and needed to reinforce himself to travel to court with his lawyer to defend his position. His apology asking the Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Yahaya Bello for forgiveness for the fake news he lifted from a twitter handle and published was morally correct but it is the law that will forgive him.

“Please, watch the News.

“Onogwu Muhammed”.
