The detained Bureau-Chief of the Daily Trust Newspaper, Uthman Abubakar, arrested by the Nigerian Army personnel during a raid at the Maiduguri office of the newspaper on Sunday, has been released.

Secretary of the Correspondent Chapel, Timothy Olarenwaju said in a release that Abubakar was released on Tuesday evening and was in a stable condition to face his duties in the region.

He was allowed to go home even though his mobile devices are still with the security operatives who released him.

“This is good news to us but the struggle is not over yet. We shall continue to explore all diplomatic measures to deal with the situation at least for now.

“We wish to thank you for your concern, support, love and advice. We are particularly encouraged by the efforts of the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) and the Borno State council. Grateful to you” the release said.
